The new system saves members time and it helps give them confidence in the quality of what they are reading. With over 1,000 subscriptions and 500 users every month, the EULE MediaMonitor provides insights and unbiased analyses by non-partisan experts who don’t represent interests or follow an agenda. It makes policy-relevant knowledge more tangible and allows parliamentarians to compare and quickly grasp the connections between what journalists, experts and citizens are saying. This saves time for substantive work and enables them to better understand the overall context through a “factual approximation of reality”. To meet this requirement, the Austrian Parliament processes thousands of different articles and data sets on a daily basis, using both automatic and manually methods. The system is now being further developed to use AI-based concepts auto-abstracting and content-matching to extend the breadth and depth of what is available.
